According to sources seeking anonymity, the recent sudden departure of associate Christopher J. Young (aka Chris Young) from San Francisco based Keker & Van Nest is viewed as a further attempt to conceal evidence in the mystery surrounding a sub rosa “hush-hush” transfer of $780,000 from the California Bar Foundation to the now defunct non-profit entity CaliforniaALL.
As matters presently stand, prima facie evidence creates the appearance of a sophisticated financial scheme executed in 2008 involving Democratic party operatives James Brosnahan of Morrison & Foerster, Jeffrey Bleich of Munger Tulles & Olson (the current U.S. Ambassador to Australasia and friend of President Obama), Assistant Attorney General Derek Anthony West (aka Tony West), and Chris Young, as well as others to misuse the $780,000 originating from the California Bar Foundation.
The California Bar Foundation is maintained and controlled by the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California — which is largely comprised of California Democratic Party operatives such as Shrimpscam’s Gwen Moore; Jeannine English — the wife of controversial gambling attorney and Democratic Party operative Howard Dickstein; “Gay Godfather” Dennis Manger; Democratic Party operative Joseph Lawrence Dunn (aka Joe Dunn) of Voice of OC; Nancy Fineman, a partner at the firm of Democratic party operative Joe Cotchett; and Jon Streeter, President of the California State Bar Board of Governors and a partner at the firm of Democratic Party operative — John Keker, the former prosecutor of Oliver North.
The State Bar of California — which is largely dominated by the California Democratic Party via Thomas Girardi of Girardi & Keese — has been involved in numerous financial scandals, the most notable of which involved the prolonged embezzlement of close to $900,000 by employee Sherri Pearl (who many believed was in cahoots with Executive Director Judy Johnson) , as well as the scandal involving Geoffrey Brown (former CPUC Commissioner) and Judy Johnson, as a result of which close to $30 million in fines and settlements the CPUC imposed on utility companies was funneled to the California Consumer Protection Foundation (“CCPF”), an entity for which Judy Johnson secretly served as its president.
From there, CCPF funneled most of the money to ACORN-like entities in South Los Angeles — Gwen Moore’s territory — and to an entity associated with Michael Shames in San Diego which is presently under grand jury investigation.

CaliforniaALL never acknowledged receipt of the $769,247.00 from the Cal Bar Foundation in any of its publications, although it did acknowledge the transfer on its IRS tax returns. In 2008, California Bar Foundation quietly transferred $769,247.00 to CaliforniaALL. CaliforniaALL never acknowledged receipt of the $769,247.00 from the Cal Bar Foundation in any of its publications, although it did acknowledge the transfer on its IRS tax returns. Likewise, California Bar Foundation never acknowledged the largest grant it ever bestowed in its newsroom, the California Bar Journal, or similar publications; it did, however, recognize the transfer on its IRS returns, and in a 2 by 2 inch blurb in its annual report.

In 2008, serving as President of the Foundation was Mario Camara. A joint letter published and signed by Camara and Hatamiya also made no mention of the hush-hush transfer. A San Francisco federal judge on Tuesday narrowed the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s case against a former Charles Schwab Corp. executive related to the marketing of the ill-fated YieldPlus short bond fund. But the ruling by U.S. District Judge William Alsup clears the way for a big chunk of the SEC’s case against Kimon Daifotis, the former chief investment officer for fixed income at Schwab’s investment management unit, to proceed to trial next month.

She then suggests a sideways move for her more experienced counterpart at the Chron, one that would ease herself into her rival’s shoes. Her rival has “been trying to cover education for two decades,” she admits (miaoww…) but, “I have been covering education since 1996. By most accounts, I have dominated the beat.”
As SF Weekly‘s Laurel Wellman notes “It belatedly occurs to us that, if only we’d put the same level of effort into scheming for career advancement as we have put into, say, organizing our shoe wardrobe, we could be running this place.”
Guthrie then goes on to fire miscellaneous barbs at established Chronicle columnists – remember, this is the paper she’s trying to join – and suggests exotic foreign assignments for herself too, to bring that desired Pulitzer all the closer. She also specifies elaborate seating arrangements listing colleagues she would rather or rather not be placed with. Clearly, a very particular lady.

According to knowledgeable sources, Matthew Werdegar, son of David Werdegar – the recently deposed President and CEO of IOA — has also been named as defendant in the lawsuit.
On April, 2011 President and CEO Dr. David Werdegar, Board Chair Anthony Wagner, State Senator Leland Yee, City Attorney Dennis Herrera, and Supervisor Eric Mar attended IOA’s Senior Campus ribbon-cutting ceremony. As was reported earlier, in a lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court, prominent Marina Del Rey-based legal expert Dan Dydzak alleges that California Supreme Court Associate Justice Kathryn Mickle Werdegar obstructed justice by participating in a scheme to boost the financial well-being of an entity (the Institute on Aging or “IOA”) headed by her husband, David Werdegar.

The suit avers that Justice Werdegar failed to inform interested parties of the fact that entities such as brokerhouse Charles Schwab and law firm Morrison & Foerster, for example, are major donors to the IOA, totaling tens of thousands of dollars.
Dydzak alleges that he sustained legal injury due to his role in suing Charles Schwab on behalf of a client — a former paramour of Charles Schwab co-founder, Hugo Quackenbush — and subsequent retaliation by various entities that sought to silence him (and his client), including the now-defunct law firm of Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin which previously represented Charles Schwab.
According to Dydzak, once his allegations of retaliation by Howard Rice and others were presented for adjudication before Justice Werdegar, she had an absolute duty to either obtain a waiver from Dydzak or recuse herself because of Charles Schwab’s financial donations to IOA, neither of which she did.
Dydzak further alleges that Werdegar’s failure to take these steps stemmed from a civil conspiracy entered into by the various parties, and specifically Charles Schwab and David Werdegar, by which Justice Werdegar would rule against Dydzak, ipso facto preventing him from further developing the case against Charles Schwab because this would have exposed Charles Schwab’s various alleged unlawful activities while at the same time enriching her husband David Werdegar financially — and, by extension, enriching her as well.
Shortly before Dydzak filed his lawsuit, David Werdegar abruptly resigned from his post as the CEO of IOA.

Supervisor Feinstein would later become San Francisco’s third Jewish mayor, following Adolph Sutro and Washington Bartlett, after the assassinations of George Moscone and Harvey Milk. In 1992 Feinstein was elected as one of California’s two U.S. Senators, the other being Barbara Boxer of Marin County. No other state has ever featured a contingent of two female Jewish U.S. Senators. Because libel is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement.

I am tired of so many people in America belonging to the “entitlement” class. The only thing that each U.S. citizen is “entitled” to is the right to be FREE. What you do with that freedom is up to you and no one else. Just because you did not work as hard as I did to try and make something of yourself… does not mean that I should have to pay for you to live the easy life.

My grandfather was a retired Lt. Colonel in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam and was a helicopter pilot. Sadly, he passed away on January 11, 2000 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. There is a book written by Marion F. Sturkey called “Bonnie Sue: A Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron in Vietnam”. The book includes a couple of stories about my grandfather during his time in Vietnam. It is definitely a must read book. (In my humble opinion)
My grandmother, a military wife, has always been the rock that kept our family together. Of all the people I have known in my life she is the one that inspires me the most. She has shown me that the strength of a woman can carry the world.
To all of my fellow patriots… Keep fighting the good fight, keep the faith, ‘We the People’ will prevail.

Binh Thai Luc, 35, entered his plea to five counts of murder, plus special circumstances of committing multiple murders, robbery, burglary and lying in wait.
During Luc’s initial court appearance last month, Judge Lucy Kelly McCabe assigned him a new, private defense attorney after ruling that the public defender’s office had a conflict of interest because it previously represented Luc’s brother in an unrelated separate case last year. The brother, Brian Luc, may be a witness in the murder case, prosecutors said.

Dale Minami (born October 13, 1946) is a San Francisco-based lawyer best known for heading the legal team that overturned the wrongful conviction of Fred Korematsu, whose defiance of the World War II Japanese American internment order lead to Korematsu v. United States, one of the most controversial United States Supreme Court decisions of the 20th century.
Minami was born in Los Angeles, California, graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1968 from the University of Southern California, and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1971 from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley.
Minami’s cases have often involved the civil rights of Asian-Pacific Americans and other minorities. In the early 1980s, Minami helped lead a legal team of pro bono attorneys in successfully reopening Fred Toyasaburo Korematsu v. United States, resulting in the erasure of Fred Korematsu’s criminal conviction for defying the internment. United Pilipinos for Affirmative Action v. California Blue Shield was the first employment class action lawsuit brought by Asian-Pacific Americans on behalf of Asian-Pacific Americans. Spokane JACL v. Washington State University was a class action to establish an Asian American Studies program at Washington State University. Nakanishi v. UCLA involved a claim for unfair denial of tenure that resulted in the granting of tenure after several hearing and widespread publicity over discrimination in academia.
Minami has been involved in the judicial appointment process and in public policy and legislation. He served as a member of the California Fair Employment and Housing Commission and has chaired the California Attorney General‘s Asian Pacific Advisory Committee. He has also served as a Commissioner on the California State Bar Association’s Commission on Judicial Nominee’s Evaluation, Senator Barbara Boxer‘s Judicial Screening Committee and was appointed by President Bill Clinton as Chair of the Civil Liberties Public Education Fund in 1996.
Minami is a co-founder of the Asian Law Caucus, the Asian-American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, the Asian Pacific Bar of California and the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans.
Minami has received numerous awards including the American Bar Association’s 2003 Thurgood Marshall Award, the 2003 ACLU Civil Liberties Award, the State Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award, an honorary juris doctor degree from the McGeorge School of Law, and the designation of a dormitory at the University of California at Santa Cruz as the “Queen Liliuokalani-Minami” Dormitory.

As was previously reported on The Leslie Brodie Report — which also exposed the hiring proclivities of Kerr & Wagstaffe — a proclivity which appeared to favor young white females as associates and males as partners, to date, none of the young women who were hired as associates ever made it to the level of a partner at the firm. Other male associates who made it to partnership in the firm include Messrs.Sawyer, Ng, and Labar. When we published our first story concerning Kerr & Wagstaffe, the firm racial and gender make-up was as follows:
*Out of 10 lawyers, all but one is White.
*Out of 7 Partners, all but one are Males. (This was changed around 2010, where a female, non-equity, partner was hired. Prior to that, for most of 2009, all the partners were men, and all the associates were females)
*All the associates are females. There are no male associates.
*All the females’ associates are white (Ms. Melton, Ms. Radwick, and Ms. Corcoran)

Before TLR’s involvement, the firm’s web-site was organized in such a way that pictures of men were placed on the top of the page, and the pictures of the females were placed on the bottom of the page. Succumbing to pressure, the firm quickly rearranged the order of the pictures.
When we published our first story concerning Kerr & Wagstaffe, the firm racial and gender make-up was as follows:

IOA’s Board of Directors today announced that Dr. David Werdegar has retired as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named J. Thomas Briody, MHSc as the organization’s new President and CEO.
“David’s extraordinary vision and leadership guided IOA to its position as the Bay Area’s most innovative and valuable health care organization for older adults,” said Anthony G. Wagner, Board Chairman of IOA. “Tom’s expertise will further enhance IOA’s ability to meet the evolving needs and preferences of older adults in the Bay Area.”
Tom served as President of the Continuing Care Division of the Catholic Health System of Buffalo, New York. Among his many accomplishments was integrating the independently operated skilled nursing facilities and developing a fully integrated continuum of elder care services that included skilled nursing, home health and community care management.
“The Board has complete confidence that Tom is the right person to be our next President and CEO,” added Wagner. “Tom’s 25 years of leadership in the continuum of elder care services, coupled with the breadth and depth of his expertise in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors makes him the ideal individual to undertake leadership of IOA as it continues its focus on quality and advancement.”
